Benefits of Partnership
Beyond meeting EPA regulations, the Cheyenne Prairie Generating Station will realize other benefits.
- It will help us meet the growing demand for electricity to power new technologies.
- Owning and operating utility-owned generation is the best long term, cost-effective resource to provide long-term stability for our customers.
- The plant will also enable us to provide electricity at a more competitive rate during periods of high demand.
We will co-own the Cheyenne Prairie Generating Station with our sister utility, Cheyenne Light, Fuel & Power. We will use electricity from the station to serve customers in both South Dakota and Wyoming.
We considered a number of ideas, but the BHP/CLFP partnership is the most cost-effective and energy efficient way to meet customer needs for both utilities. This partnership minimizes costs for our customers by sharing construction and operating costs.
