We’re honored to have so many employees who’ve served, or are currently serving, in the armed forces. It takes a unique set of values and skills to serve our country, and we’re fortunate these well-regarded individuals are part of our Black Hills family.
We’re proud of our employees and happy to announce that Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a Department of Defense office, recently awarded Black Hills Corporation the 2015 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award.
The Freedom Award is the DOD's highest recognition given to employers for exceptional support of National Guard and Reserve employees. We join fifteen employers from across the nation in receiving this prestigious award.
We were nominated for the award by Corey Virtue, an employee and soldier in the South Dakota Army National Guard’s 235th Military Police Company.
“Anytime I am doing something with the Guard, my supervisors are always supportive,” said Virtue, who deployed to Afghanistan for nearly a year in 2013. “They sent care packages and were always checking up on my wife, who was pregnant with our fifth child, while I was gone.”
Thank you to Corey for the nomination and thank you to all of our military members for your service to our country.
