Who is Black Hills Corp?
Our $6.7 billion company is one of the largest publically traded companies headquartered in South Dakota. We employ over 2,800 employees, who serve over 1.2 million customers with natural gas and electric utility services. We also generate wholesale electricity, and produce natural gas, crude oil and coal.
Six percent of our customers are in the Black Hills. The other 94 percent of customers - including more than 1.16 million natural gas and electric utility customers – are in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska and Wyoming.
Although we’re based in Rapid City, we also have almost 200 additional offices and service centers throughout Arkansas, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wyoming.
Over the past 13 years, we grew from serving 62,000 Black Hills Power electric customers to providing natural gas and electricity to over 1.2 million customers across eight states in nearly 800 communities.
Growing the company has also grown Rapid City. Since 2004, we’ve added more than 300 jobs in Rapid City, mostly by acquiring eight different utilities in five other states. We now have more than 500 local employees and their families who contribute more than $81 million to the Rapid City community each year.
Over the past six years, Black Hills Corp. and our employees donated more than $2.8 million to almost 200 organizations in Rapid City and the Black Hills region. And our local employees volunteer thousands of hours of their time in the Black Hills each year.
We are committed to continuing to grow our company as we’ve done over the past 10 years and helping to grow the Rapid City community as we’ve done for more than 130 years.
