Sept. 18, 2017 - Our new corporate headquarters, Horizon Point, continues to progress toward a November move-in process.
The west wing is nearly complete, with only door installation remaining. Crews continue to work their way down the south wing, installing ceiling tiles before laying carpet, bringing in furniture and completing finishing touches. The atrium is taking shape as well.
Outside, grass has sprouted and crews will plant trees soon. Decorative wooden timbers on the front and back facades work in harmony with the surrounding nature.
To-date, the project has an excellent safety record.
July 27, 2017 - With just a few months to go before our move-in process begins at Horizon Point, the inside of the building is quickly taking shape. The third floor of the west wing is now complete – carpet, furniture, lighting and all. The central atrium has drywall now and dry-in work continues in the south wing.
Horizon Point’s grounds will soon begin to green up as crews complete installation of the irrigation system and begin planting trees and shrubbery.
We expect to the move-in to begin on-schedule in November. To date, the project has an excellent safety record.
May 22, 2017 - Rapid City-based Scull Construction Services continues to work on our new corporate headquarters, Horizon Point.
On the building’s exterior, windows have been installed and the completion of the building’s skin is nearly complete. Wood timbers that will frame the exterior are being prepared for installation, and landscaping is underway. Inside the building, crews are hard at work. On the third floor of the west wing, they completed installation of carpet, ceiling tiles and lighting and began installing furniture. Once the third floor is completed, crews will continue this work down the wing. Drywall is being installed in the atrium, and the south wing is being roughed in.
The project is on schedule, with the move-in process expected to begin in November. To date, the project has an excellent safety record.
March 27, 2017 - Rapid City-based Scull Construction Services continues to work on our new corporate headquarters, and the site has officially been designated as “Horizon Point.” Interior electrical, plumbing, drywall and painting are under way throughout the building. Ceiling grids are being installed and interior office spaces are starting to take shape. Stairwells and handrails are nearing completion.
Meanwhile, the roof is now complete and window installation is nearly finished on the south wing. Installation of exterior metal panels continues on the south wing of the two-winged building, while the west wing is nearly complete and sports the look of the finished exterior. Structural steel for the building extension to the west is complete, and now exterior walls and the roof are being installed on that structure. Landscaping at Horizon Point has begun, including installation of irrigation systems and the mixing of soils.
The project is on schedule, with the move-in process expected to begin in November. To-date, the project has an excellent safety record.
Feb. 23, 2017 - Rapid City-based Scull Construction Services continues to work on our new headquarters, recently dubbed Horizon Point. Interior electrical, painting, plumbing and drywall work continues throughout the building. Ceiling grids are being installed and interior office spaces are starting to take shape.
Meanwhile, on the exterior of the south wing, the roof is now complete and window installation continues. Structural steel for the building extension to the west is nearly complete, and installation of exterior metal panels for the entire building has started.
The project is on schedule for a fall 2017 move-in and has an excellent safety record.
Dec. 21, 2016 - Construction at the new headquarters site continues, with temporary heating set up to allow for interior work to continue in the west wing. The construction team is looking into an interior liner for the south wing so work can continue throughout the winter months. As expected, all parking lots and roadways, some of which can be seen in this overhead shot, were finished before the end of the year. The project is on schedule for a fall 2017 move-in.
Nov. 2, 2016 - Construction at the new headquarters site continues, and crews have completed raising all major structural steel at the site. They’re also busy installing the asphalt paving in the parking lots. The west wing is now almost fully enclosed, and the rest of the building should be enclosed by January 2017. Crews will then turn their attention toward finishing the interiors.
The view pictured — of the atrium area in the center of the building — reflects the roughing in of some of the interior spaces. The project is on schedule for a fall 2017 move-in and has a perfect safety record.
Sept. 30, 2016 - On Sept. 30, 2016, we joined work crews from Scull Construction Services to recognize an important milestone: The “topping-out” of the structural steel at our new headquarters. A topping-out ceremony is a milestone that builders traditionally observe when the last steel beam is placed onto a structure.
We’re grateful for the many local partners we’ve had in this effort since breaking ground approximately one year ago. Scull Construction Services and the dedicated work crews have done a fantastic job of ensuring we’ve reached this milestone safely, efficiently and with a high degree of excellence.
Aug. 16, 2016 - If you drive by the building site for our new headquarters, you’ll see that much of the external structure has taken shape. The majority of the structural steel is in place, and the outline of the entire building, including the central atrium – the HQ’s centerpiece – should be visible by late August. All structural steel should be in place by mid-September. Workers are applying the building’s exterior skin and have completed this process for about two-thirds of the west wing. They’ve also begun to pour concrete slabs for the second floor of the atrium core.
Work also continues at the site beyond the main structure. Nearly 200 geothermal wells, which will provide the majority of the HQ’s heating needs, have been drilled, and testing is underway. Additionally, crews are busy preparing to pave the facility’s access roads and parking lots, and expect to finish that process sometime in the fall.
The project remains on schedule for move-in by the end of 2017.
June 21, 2016 - After breaking ground on September 15, 2015, Rapid City-based Scull Construction Services continues to work on our new headquarters. All steel for the four-story structure is expected to be erected by end of July as steel crews turn their attention on completion of the atrium and the south wing.
Bright purple sheeting now encases the exterior on the west wing. Approximately 130 geothermal wells have been fully drilled, tested and completed on the site, making way for future energy efficiencies in the building. Paving of a nearby access street will begin soon, with the completion of all headquarters site roadways and parking lots by fall 2016. The building is expected to be fully enclosed by the end of 2016. The project is on schedule for move-in by the end of 2017 and there have been no injuries on-site to date.
May 23, 2016 - After breaking ground on September 15, 2015, Rapid City-based Scull Construction Services continues to work on our new headquarters, and the structure has begun to take shape.
Steel is going up at the site; Scull has nearly completed erection of the west wing and has begun work on one of the building’s most defining characteristics: the central atrium. They’re also pouring concrete slabs for the floors, building the interior walls and constructing the stair/elevator towers. Utility lines are in place, and we expect to have BHE-supplied electricity within the building by mid-June.
In anticipation of the increased traffic the HQ will bring to the area, road construction crews have widened Catron Boulevard by a lane near the building site, though the additional lane is still closed. We expect construction of all campus roadways and parking to be complete by the fall.
Jan. 7, 2016 - We broke ground on September 15. This fall, ARC International, the architect for our new headquarters in Rapid City, has been busy finalizing details in the building plans so that bids could be requested by Scull Construction Services, the project’s general contractor, for various parts of the building like steel, concrete, electrical, mechanical and plumbing work.
At the site, grading is nearly done, some materials have been delivered and the contractor has erected a construction fence. Next steps at the site include placement of footings and foundations, followed by the assembly of the building’s steel structure, which is expected to begin in February 2016.
