Supply Chain
Black Hills Corporation’s Supply Chain department centralizes purchasing for the entire company, resulting in better pricing and continuity throughout all of our locations. Purchasing centralization minimizes costs, benefitting our shareholders and customers.
The Supply Chain department works with various BHC business units — including Black Hills Energy, Black Hills Power, Cheyenne Light, Fuel & Power, the Gillette Energy Complex, and Black Hills Exploration & Production — to secure contracts and help implement processes that save the company time and money.
Departments
Contracts
The Contracts department maintains the contracts database, offers advice in the contracts process, maintains the warranty data file, and manages the mailroom. It also recommends solutions and develops changes to streamline the contracts system and improve overall Supply Chain performance.
Fleet
The Fleet department acquires and disposes of company vehicles and equipment, sources and manages the up-fitting process, sets the vehicle maintenance schedule, and manages the company’s EAM software. Additionally, it is in charge of maintaining fleet data and the fleet card program, while ensuring that federal and state compliance records are kept up to date.
Materials Management
Materials Management controls inventory levels, minimizes obsolescence and scrap, and ensures that proper materials and SKUs are in place. It conducts inventory counts in accordance with SOX standards, pulls and restocks materials when necessary, updates system data, completes requisitions for work orders, and manages the rebuild process as needed.
Reporting Analysis
Reporting Analysis recommends procedures to increase efficiency through spend analyses and the development of appropriate spend analytics. It also supports Strategic Sourcing and provides assistance to ensure contract accuracy.
Strategic Sourcing and Capital Construction
The Strategic Sourcing and Capital Construction department handles tactical strategic procurement, reqs to checks process, expedites and accurately tracks orders, develops opportunity assessments, and manages vendor relationships.
Supplier Diversity
The Supplier Diversity department tracks the company’s usage of diverse suppliers, maintains SOX documentation, prepares and submits General Service Administration reports and forecasts, and helps conduct training programs designed to increase the awareness of our Supplier Diversity efforts.
Facilities
It is the role of the facility management to coordinate and oversee the safe, and secure, operations and maintenance of our buildings and properties in a cost effective manner aimed at long-term preservation of their value. Facilities manage our janitorial and grounds duties. It also supervises transactions relating to the purchase or sale of buildings or property.

These processes promote the inclusion of diverse suppliers into the supply chain bidding process, while helping to develop new sources of supply for all types of products and services.
